Personally, I like a chocolate-colored sky. Dark, dark chocolate. People say it suits me. I do, however, try to enjoy every color I see—the whole spectrum. A billion or so flavors, none of them quite the same, and a sky to slowly suck on. It takes the edge off the stress. It helps me relax.

The character Death in the book The Book Thief by Markus Zusak was portrayed much differently than the normal perception of death, the quote “Personally, I like a chocolate-colored sky. Dark, dark chocolate. People say it suits me. I do, however, try to enjoy every color I see—the whole spectrum.” shows how human like Markus Zusak interpreted death to be. The quote shows that death has a favourite colour, a very human concept, no other organism except humans have colour preference, which shows that death is not simply just an instrument of the after life delivering souls like an automated machine but can actually pick and choose favourites.

“A billion or so flavors, none of them quite the same, and a sky to slowly suck on. It takes the edge off the stress. It helps me relax.” This quote talks about how death can stressed, biological mechanism that only humans actually have due to our rapid change in lifestyle over the past thousands of years. This such a human characteristic that it almost makes it seem like death was in fact a human.
